This story I was told by my mother happened to my grandfather.

In the winter of 1984, at that time Grandpa lived in a small village. He had several sows, and it was their breeding season. One night, at around one o’clock, Grandpa got up to use the bathroom and noticed that one of his sows was missing. Worried, he asked grandma and my mom to help him search the village, but they couldn’t find the sow anywhere.

It was a snowy night, and the moon was bright enough to light up the surroundings. Grandpa decided to go to the neighboring village, where he usually took his sows for breeding. As he walked, he noticed that the path was clean, and there were no footprints except his own. After walking for about ten minutes, he saw a woman walking towards him. She wore a white gown, and her hair was long and black. Grandpa greeted her and asked where she was going. She replied in a faint voice that she was heading to Shanghai city.

Grandpa found it strange that the woman was out so late at night and walking alone in the snowy weather. As she walked towards a nearby well, he became even more curious. Suddenly, he realized that the woman had no footprints in the snow, except for his own. Grandpa turned around to look at her, but she had already vanished into thin air.

Intrigued, Grandpa walked towards the well and searched the field, but there were no footprints except his own. Suddenly, he remembered the stories of a woman who had been murdered and thrown into the well. The villagers had found her clothes and reported the incident to the authorities, who found the woman’s body in the well.

Shaken and terrified, Grandpa ran back to the neighboring village and found his sow. On his way back home, he recounted the strange encounter to the villagers. The elders confirmed that a woman had indeed been murdered and thrown into the well years ago.

From that night on, Grandpa would never walk alone at night. He believed that the woman he had encountered was a ghost seeking revenge. Her story became a cautionary tale in the village, and no one dared to go near the well at night.
