Haunted apartment in a small village on the outskirts of Beijing

In 2019, I moved to a small village on the outskirts of Beijing to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I rented an old apartment that had been vacant for a while, but it was affordable and had a great view of the surrounding countryside. However, little did I know that the apartment had a dark history.

At first, everything seemed fine. I decorated the apartment to my liking, and I settled into my new life in the countryside. However, strange things began to happen almost immediately. At night, I would hear noises coming from the walls, as if something was crawling around inside them. At first, I dismissed it as just the sounds of an old building settling, but the noises persisted and grew louder with each passing night.

One evening, I was sitting in my living room watching TV when I heard a loud banging on my front door. I quickly got up and opened the door, but there was nobody there. I assumed it was just some kids playing a prank and went back to my TV show. However, the banging continued intermittently throughout the night, leaving me feeling uneasy and unable to sleep.

As the weeks went by, the strange occurrences continued. I would wake up in the middle of the night to find my furniture rearranged or my belongings moved to strange places. Sometimes, I would hear voices whispering in my ear when there was nobody else in the room.

One day, I decided to ask my landlord about the history of the apartment. To my horror, she told me that the previous tenant had committed suicide in the apartment. Apparently, the man had been suffering from depression and had hung himself in the living room.

After learning about the apartment’s dark past, I began to feel even more uneasy in my own home. I would wake up in the middle of the night, feeling as though I was being watched, and the crawling noises in the walls became more frequent and intense.

One particularly scary night, I woke up to find my bedroom door wide open. I always made sure to lock my bedroom door before going to sleep, and I was certain that I had done so that night. I felt a chill run down my spine as I got out of bed and slowly closed the door, but as soon as I lay back down, the door swung open once again.

Terrified, I called a friend to come over and spend the night with me. Together, we tried to make light of the situation, but we both knew that something was not right about the apartment. We stayed up until dawn, listening to the crawling noises in the walls and the creaking of the floorboards, too afraid to sleep.

After that night, I decided that I could no longer live in the apartment. I broke my lease and moved out as soon as I could. Even though I was relieved to leave the haunted apartment behind, the experience left a lasting impression on me. I realized that sometimes, the things we cannot see or explain can be the most frightening of all.
