Haunted Hospital Internship My Encounter with the Paranormal and Unexplained Occurrences in Shanghai

As a child, I was always weak and sickly, so it was no surprise when I grew up that I was admitted to a nursing school. In 2018, I was sent to a major hospital in Shanghai for an internship. The hospital was located a little remote, and during my internship, strange and eerie things started to happen.

One morning, I was assigned to the gynecological department for my internship. When I arrived, my teacher took me to the Gynecological Abortion Room. She pointed at a semitransparent yellow plastic bag and instructed me to bring it to the morgue. I knew what was in the bag – a stillborn foetus that was about three months old – and I felt uneasy. My teacher told me to leave the bag outside the door of the morgue, and the workers would understand. As I was walking towards the morgue, I couldn’t help feeling on edge. The morgue was located in a very old building, about a meter below the ground. When I approached the entrance, it was dark inside, and I couldn’t see anything. I quickly threw the bag into the morgue and turned around to run away.

During my night shift, I was sleeping in the duty room, which was located at the end of the hallway on the third floor. Beside it was a narrow and dark staircase that led to the morgue. In the middle of the night, I woke up to the sound of a baby crying faintly. I was frightened and put the blanket over my head, trying to fall back asleep. Suddenly, I experienced sleep paralysis. I saw a middle-aged woman in a shirt walking towards me and pinching my neck. I screamed and struggled, but I couldn’t move. She pressed on my body and put her head beside mine. I couldn’t breathe, and then I was woken up by my teacher. It was two o’clock in the morning. I had the same dream and sleep paralysis almost every night after that. My teacher told me that there was usually nobody in the Gynecological Abortion Room, and that she had stopped going there for her lunch break because she had a nightmare once.

In my dormitory room, I often heard someone calling out my name, and I would suddenly wake up in the middle of the night. One time, I heard my mother’s voice calling out to me, but she lived far away from the hospital, so it was impossible for her to call out to me. I called her, and she advised me to go out and bask in the sun. After that night, I always experienced sleep paralysis in my dorm room.

After my gynecological internship, I was assigned to a surgical job. One day, an old lady became seriously ill, and her family gave up on rescuing her. As I watched her passing away, her eyes were ajar, and tears streamed down her face. I felt that she knew about her family’s decision and understood that she was passing away. After her passing, I did a simple treatment of her body, and suddenly I heard a sigh coming from her. I turned around and saw that her mouth was open. I knew that when she passed away, her mouth was closed. I was frozen for a moment, and then I asked my helper if she had heard the sigh from the old lady, but she said she hadn’t.

From that day on, I was convinced that something was amiss at that hospital. It seemed like ghosts were haunting the place, and I couldn’t explain the strange occurrences that had happened during my internship. I decided to leave the hospital and move on to another job, but the memories of those eerie experiences stayed with me.
