The Haunting Face Outside My Window

The Haunting Face Outside My Window

The Haunting Face Outside My Window

I have never mentioned it to any one other than my grandmother because whenever I recall it feeling uncomfortable and frightened.

It was a summer evening, about seven years ago, when I was just eleven or twelve years old. I remember waking up suddenly in a dimly lit room with the wind howling loudly against the house. As I lay there, I felt an oppressive sensation charging at me. My heart was racing, and I felt sick to my stomach. I tried to turn on the lamp but found that I couldn’t move. I didn’t know about sleep paralysis at that time, but I just couldn’t move a muscle.

As I lay there, feeling like I couldn’t breathe, I heard my own heartbeat. Then, I turned to look out the window, and that’s when I saw it. A face, smiling at me from outside, with no body attached to it. It was just a head, with a white face. The sight scared the life out of me, and I wanted to scream, but I couldn’t. I just lay there, crying silently, until I finally coughed hard enough to make a sound.

My grandmother heard my cries and rushed to my room. She asked me if I had had a bad dream, and I told her everything. She cursed at the window, shouting for whoever was out there to get lost. She even threatened to dig up their grave if they didn’t leave us alone. Her words gave me some comfort, and I eventually fell asleep again.

The next morning, I woke up with a headache and a fever. My grandmother remembered what had happened the previous night and took me to a temple in the next village. There, a psychic looked at me for a moment, did some magic, and asked for my name and birth date. He looked at the burning incense for a while and then told us that a wandering ghost had passed by our house and saw that I was a sweet child, wanting to prank me.

The psychic then burned some paper, said something, and pulled his hands over my head several times, repeating my name. He took out a piece of paper, put it in a bowl of water, and asked me to drink it all. After the rites, he advised my grandmother not to let me stay in that room for the next three days.

As we walked out of the temple, I started to feel better. I had kept this incident to myself for years, but now I feel ready to share it with others. Looking back, I still feel uncomfortable and frightened when I recall that night. Who or what was that face outside my window? Was it really a wandering ghost, as the psychic had claimed? I may never know the truth, but I will never forget the haunting face outside my window.
