Trapped in a Haunted Maze A Terrifying Encounter on a Hiking Trip

It was a hot summer day on July 14, 2021, when five friends and I decided to go on a hiking trip to Mentougou deep mountain in Beijing. we had always loved hiking in places where few people would go, as it gave us the opportunity to discover interesting things and have exciting experiences.

As we set out on our journey at four in the morning, we noticed some people burning Hell money along the way. we were confused at first, but then realized that it was the Ghost Festival in traditional Chinese festivals. Two of the friends suggested that we should cancel the trip, as it was not a good omen, but the others dismissed the idea, as we were atheists.

we continued on our journey and arrived at our destination, where we had a lot of fun during the day. However, as it started getting late, we decided to return after dinner. Since we had entered the deep mountains, we knew we had to leave before sunset, otherwise it would be difficult to navigate through the dark.

On our way back, we passed by a pond that we had seen on our way into the mountains. There was a grave beside the pond that had clearly not been worshipped for a long time, as the weeds and untamed trees around it looked bleak. As we continued walking, we suddenly found ourselves facing the same pond again, which was confusing as we had only seen one pond on the way in. It was now dark, and we turned on our flashlights to continue our journey.

After a few minutes, we came across the same pond again, which was very strange. we realized that we were trapped in a maze-like situation, known as “Ghost Pounding the Wall” in Chinese folklore. It was a situation where we were unable to find our way out, as if being guided by ghosts.

One of our friends, who had been a soldier, explained that we were under the influence of a ghostly power and that the best thing to do was to sit and wait for dawn, when the situation would resolve itself. So, we sat on a rock, waiting for the morning to arrive.

At some point during the night, we heard a scream that echoed through the mountains. The fog began to rise above the pond, and we saw a man in a white gown floating up from the water towards us. The man was lunging towards us, and we instinctively covered our heads with our hands and curled up in fear. The last thing we remembered was blacking out.

When we woke up the next morning, we were relieved to be alive, but still shaken from the experience. we had no idea how we had managed to survive the night, or how we had managed to escape the ghostly power that had trapped us.

This experience had a profound impact on us, and we never went hiking again after that. The memory of that terrifying night would haunt us for the rest of our lives. we often wondered what kind of ghostly power we had encountered that night, and whether we had been lucky enough to escape its grasp.
